Secrets of the Atlas
- Tears into different realities within the Atlas have begun to appear. The Originator of these realities has entangled themselves within the very fabric of the Atlas, and they're now trapped! Track down the source of the tears and uncover the secrets within.
- You will meet Eagon, a man of mysterious heritage trying to discover his origins. In his quest, Eagon has been investigating these distortions of reality, occasionally catching glimpses of a young girl through the rifts — Zana.
Memory Threads
In the Atlas you will encounter Threads of Consciousness, a strange thread-like substance that appears near the tears. By using a powerful gauntlet of his own making, Eagon is able to create a link to these memory threads and open portals to them. Working with Eagon, you must step through and find Zana, or whatever remains of her.
Memory Threads is 4 to 8 Maps.
Memory Petals
The areas you are asked to investigate are not your typical Maps, they’re influenced by the Memories of Zana herself and have manifested dangerous threats. Influenced monsters are imbued with Memory Petals, defeat them and absorb their power to unleash it for yourself as a special ability during combat.
- Memory of Disbelief: Consumes Petals to cause affected nearby monsters to not be able to drop items that can have rarity. The number of Petals consumed is proportional to the Power of affected monsters. (Cost 30 Petals)
- Memory of Panic: Consumes Petals to cause affected monsters to revive on death, dropping loot and granting experience again. The number of Petals consumed is proportional to the Power of affected monsters. Does not affect Unique monsters. (Cost 50 Petals)
- Memory of Impatience: Consumes Petals to extract Souls from nearby monsters. The number of Petals consumed is proportional to the Power of nearby monsters. (Cost 20 Petals)
- Memory of Familiarity: Consumes Petals to cause affected nearby monsters to have either 200% more item quantity or 90% less item quantity, and have all dropped items by of the same type. The number of Petals consumed is proportional to the Power of affected monsters. (Cost 30 Petals)
- Memory of Impulsiveness: Consumes Petals to cause affected nearby monsters to have 200% increased Item Rarity and convert non-unique equipment items to Gold. The number of Petals consumed is proportional to the Power of affected monsters. (Cost 30 Petals)
- Memory of Desire: Consumes Petals to cause affected nearby monsters to have a chance to gain bonus rewards and 100% increased Toughness. Higher rarity monsters have a higher chance to gain rewards. The number of Petals consumed is proportional to the Power of affected monsters. (Cost 40 Petals)
- Memory of Suspicion: Consumes Petals to cause affected nearby normal monsters to have a chance to be upgraded to magic or rare rarity. (Cost 30 Petals)
- Memory of Mocking: Consumes Petals to gain the modifiers of affected nearby magic and rare monsters for 30 seconds. The number of Petals consumed is proportional to the Power of affected monsters. (Cost 20 Petals)
You can first use Memory of Impatience to become way more powerful, then use Memory of Panic to prepare them to revive when they are slain, then use Memory of Disbelief to cause them to drop better, more valuable items. Finally, obliterate them all, the memory of panic will kick in, causing them to revive, and then wipe them out again allowing you to get all the experience and enhanced drops twice.
Memory Altar
As you defeat the boss of each map along the Thread, you are presented with an Altar.
This Altar will apply a modifier to all following maps in the Thread, and these will stack as you go, so the deeper you delve into a memory, the more mods you will have.
This, combined with the special abilities, will allow for some of the most juiced maps ever run in Path of Exile. Let’s take a look at some of the Altar mods, you are always presented with two choices and must pick one.
Modifiers
- 200% increased quantity of Petals found on Rare and Unique Monsters in Area
- 500% increased quantity of Petals found on Map Bosses in Area
- Map Crafts applied to this Area have no Cost
- 50% chance for Rare Monsters in Area to be Possessed
Pinnacle bosses
The final Map in each Thread is a true challenge, affected by all of the previous modifiers selected at each Altar, and guarded by a powerful boss. Each of these bosses are familiar, but dreamlike, drawn from Zana's memories and warped by the Atlas into something very different, and terrifying. Defeat these warped memory bosses, and dive deeper into the memory rifts to encounter the most significant of Zana's memories, manifested into three new Pinnacle bosses.
- The Cardinal of Fear (Cardinal Sanctus Vox) - Echo of Trauma (Incarnation of Fear)
- The Deceitful God (Innocence) - Echo of Reverence (Incarnation of Dread)
- The Neglected Flame (Sirus, Awakener of Worlds) - Echo of Loneliness (Incarnation of Neglect)
Atlas Passive Tree
- Traumatic Experience: 80% reduced chance for Memory Threads to lead towards the Incarnation of Dread.
- Remembered Kindness: 80% reduced chance for Memory Threads to lead towards the Incarnation of Neglect.
- Educated Upbringing: 80% reduced chance for Memory Threads to lead towards the Incarnation of Fear.
Memory Strands
After defeating all three new pinnacle bosses, you’ll be able to find new Memory Influenced tier 16 maps. These maps come with the previously mentioned special abilities and monsters infused with Memory Petals but can also roll the same modifiers typically found on tier 17 maps, making them far more rewarding. With all these new memory maps, comes a new item mechanic.
Items in Memory Influenced Maps can drop with Memory Strands. And will have a random amount up to 100. On top of this, whenever you’re crafting that item using currency orbs to replace or add modifiers such as Alterations, Chaos, and so forth, it will consume some memory strands to make the crafted mods more powerful. We don't have fossils and harvest and stuff do it.
The new Pinnacle bosses also drop new Crafting Currencies which can be used to manipulate the amount of Memory Strands on an item.
Orb of Remembrance, which randomises the number of Memory Strands on a normal equipment item.
Orb of Unravelling, which consumes all Memory Strands on an item to attempt to upgrade the tier of explicit modifiers based on the number Memory Strands consumed.
Orb of Intention, which modifies a Memory Influenced Map, causing items found to have more Memory Strands, but fewer items drop.
Atlas Passive Tree
- Grasp the Past: The number of Memory Strands on Equipment Items found in your Maps has a 50% chance to be Lucky.
